Liquid Ring Pumps: Types, Benefits, And Uses
Posted in Uncategorised, on October 14, 2021 By Admin
Liquid ring pumps are tools that are essentially used to increase the flow of liquids. They are ideal for pumping fluids in pipelines, irrigation systems, plumbing, vending machines, and more. They are typically made from cast iron or stainless steel with an internal rotating seal typically fitted with a rubber washer. But there is more than one type of liquid ring pump.
Here you can learn about the variations in liquid ring pumps and their uses.
Types of Liquid Ring Pump
Single Stage
A single-stage liquid ring pump is a centrifugal pump in which the impeller is mounted on a ring-shaped "spool," which in turn is mounted on a vertical shaft. The impeller is shaped like a flat disk and it rotates when the shaft turns clockwise. You can reverse the direction of rotation of the impeller by reversing the direction of rotation of the shaft. In operation, fluid from the high-pressure side enters the pump via an inlet port and flows downward across a rotating vane chamber. Most high-quality liquid ring pumps are made of stainless steel and ceramics, like those manufactured by McRae Engineering Equipment Limited, a company known to provide the best abrasion and corrosion resistance.
Two-Stage
A two-stage liquid ring pump uses two impeller disks to convert the rotational motion of the motor into a fluid motion. The liquid is drawn into the first impeller at low pressure, resulting in a suction force. The liquid then enters the second impeller disk, which is at a higher pressure. The pressure difference between the two impeller disks creates a force that lifts the liquid to create a vacuum that draws more liquid into the piping.
Applications
Petroleum Industry
A liquid ring pump can effectively perform petrochemical processing to transport both crude oil and gas to various heating or cooling systems. In other industries, liquid ring pumps are typically used in vapour recovery systems to treat water or other liquids contaminated with oil, solvents, or any other similar soluble substance.
Dairy Processing
In dairy processing, a liquid ring pump is used to rapidly and continuously pump milk from a tank to a collecting vessel. It can continuously pump milk from a tank to a collecting vessel at a rapid pace. Another added benefit here is that a liquid ring pump can be automated, subsequently eliminating the need for manual operation.
