Brief Overview Of A Venturi Scrubber

Using a plethora of dust collection filters and equipment is one of the best ways to maintain a high level of air quality in your business or residential facility. These devices remove unwanted pollutants that can harm workers and place your facility at risk of regulatory compliance violations. However, the dust and other air contaminants are also known to damage the sensitive internal components of this filtering equipment. To prevent this, wet scrubbers were devised to safely remove dust and other contaminants from the air stream, and one of the most prominently used wet scrubbers is the venturi scrubber. Here’s a brief overview of this particular type of wet scrubber.
What is a venturi scrubber?
Inception
Though venturi devices have been around for a long time, it was during the mid-20th century that engineers finally devised a way to use them to efficiently remove unwanted particles from air streams. This removal is enabled by the hydro-friendly design of the venturi scrubber. Basically, it is designed to use the differential between high-velocity dust particles and free-flowing water to generate water droplets that entrap the contaminants within them.
Application And Operation
Venturi scrubbers are intended to effectively remove dust, fumes, aerosols, and even solids. Water is the most commonly used scrubbing liquid that comes into contact with the air stream containing particulate matter. This process takes place in a turbulent, high-velocity venturi throat. When the water droplets and contaminants interact with each other, they gather together in the diverging section of the venturi scrubber.
The agglomerated particles are then eliminated from the gas stream via a cyclonic separator. Any scrubbing liquid that is recovered will then be recirculated and returned to a separate or integrated tank. While these devices come in standard size and capacity, each unit can be custom-designed to suit the specific requirements of your application. The most common design of a venturi scrubber features a throat, a converging section, and a diverging section.
Thanks to their simple yet efficient operation, venturi scrubbers are utilized in various applications across multiple industries.
