How does a dry claw vacuum pump work?
In a basic claw vacuum pump, there are two rotors within a cylinder that are shaped like a claw, hence the name. These two rotors move in opposite directions to one another, thereby creating a vacuum. The air or gas that is meant to be pumped gets sucked into this vacuum and is eventually compressed and discharged effectively. The two rotors and the cylinder don’t come in contact with one another, however, they do come very close.
This extremely tight clearance further helps in maintaining a high pump speed, consequently improving the efficiency of the claw pump. It also prevents the gas from flowing back, creating a dry seal in the process. Overall these pumps can be more efficient than a rotary vane pump by almost 30 percent, if not more.
